(1) The total number of prisoners discharged in 2018-19 was 12,777,
representing 10,760 individual prisoners.
(2) Of all
prisoner discharges in 2018-19, 41 per cent (or 5270 prisoner discharges) were
discharged without having served any time under sentence.
(3) There were 10,975 male prisoners discharged in 2018-19.
Of these, 4259 or 39 per cent were discharged without having served any time
under sentence.
(4) There were 1802 female prisoners
discharged in 2018-19. Of these, 1011 or 56 per cent were discharged without
having served any time under sentence.
(5) The total
number of prisoners identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
discharged in 2018-19 was 1542. Of these, 713 or 46 per cent were discharged
without having served any time under
sentence.
(6) There were 316 female prisoners
identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander discharged in 2018-19. Of
these, 194 or 61 per cent were discharged without having served any time under
sentence.
(7) 57 per cent of prisoners discharged
in 2018-19 had episode lengths under three months.
(8) 73
per cent of female prisoners discharged in 2018-19 had episode lengths under
three months.
(9) 60 per cent of prisoners identifying as
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who were discharged in 2018-19 had episode
lengths under three months.
(10) 80 per cent of female
prisoners identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who were
discharged in 2018-19 had episode lengths under three months.
(11) The total number of prisoners discharged from
unsentenced episodes in 2018-19 was 5270. Of these, 2970 or 56 per cent were
discharged to bail.
(12) 60 per cent of all female
prisoners discharged from unsentenced episodes in 2018-19 were discharged to
bail.
(13) 55 per cent of all male prisoners
discharged from unsentenced episodes in 2018-19 were discharged to bail.
(14) 55 per cent of all prisoners identifying as
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander who were discharged from unsentenced
episodes in 2018-19 were discharged to bail.
(15) 59
per cent of all female prisoners identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait
Islander who were discharged from unsentenced episodes in 2018-19 were
discharged to bail.
