MR HAYES — To ask the Minister for Agriculture: Given that a distance of 30 metres appears to be in breach of the Firearm Safety Code, what studies or risk assessments have been carried out regarding the proximity of duck shooting to people's homes.
Answer:

The Firearm Safety Code is an advisory document providing guidance on the safe use of firearms. For
example, individuals applying for licences to use firearms are required to be familiar with the Code.

The regulation of the use of firearms is provided for under the Firearms Act 1996. Under the Act there are
strict penalties, including prison time, for the unsafe use of firearms. This includes significant penalties that
may be applied to individuals shooting on to or from private land without the owner or occupier's consent.
